Contemplate + Sketch
Sharon Roberts regularly sketches outdoors as part of her arts practice in regional Queensland.
As a visual artist she primarily paints, but the exploration of an idea can also lead her into other creative expressions including poetry, printmaking, textiles, photography, and movement.
Gesture, colour and a sense of place are of more interest to her than the depiction of a scene, with
"How do I feel?" or "What am I noticing here?" being more significant questions to explore than "How does this look, exactly?"
Sharon's faith is a major influence, informing the whole of her arts practice.

Eyes, Heart, Hands - Contemplative Sketching Outdoors
Slow down, pray, wait, notice, respond and reflect in pencil, paint, and pen.
Each of our sessions will begin indoors with prayer and the opportunity to share something about our discoveries from the previous day. We will have instruction in such things as contemplation, drawing, watercolour paints and using colour, and then head outside with our sketchbooks and kit, find a quiet place and practise.
We will be using basic and easily accessible art materials, which will be provided. If you already have a sketchbook and paints that you are familiar with and would prefer to use, you are welcome to do so. This elective will be suitable for both beginners and those with more experience as the main purpose is each of us having time to sit quietly, growing in our experience of listening to God in quiet contemplation and expanding our ways of responding to what we notice.
If the weather is unsuitable for the outdoors we will have indoor alternatives.
Max & min numbers apply, make sure you indicate a second choice of afternoon elective when registering in case your first choice is unavailable.
